The Guide to Field Inspector Jobs

If You Can Drive and Take Snapshots, Here’s How to Earn $30 in 20 Minutes – Over and Over Again

If you’re fed up with all the “get-rich-quick” schemes, you’ll be happy to know there are honest businesses you can start in your spare time and without a lot of money. One of the best is a field inspector job. Let me explain. There is a “secret” industry out there – one that’s unknown to most people.

Banks, lenders and insurance companies need to have up-to-date information on the property they lend on or insure. That’s where independent field inspectors come in. These local “reps” go to the property location, and do a drive-by property check, which usually includes a snapshot or two. Most of these property checks take less than 15 minutes, and most reps do ten or more in a day.

These simple inspections can be done by students, men, women or retirees – anyone who can drive, use a point-and-shoot digital camera and has a home computer. There are over 60 large national firms that need local folks to do these independent field inspections, or property checks.

“I was concerned the start-up costs would be too expensive, but they were not at all. I enjoyed the wealth of specific details on how to get started and the fact that it was an easy book to read. Thanks! ” Julie Barefoot – North Carolina

They send the job to you by email, and will send a check when you complete the job. These national companies need help in every part of the country. The pay is great – people are getting $20, $30, as much as $100 for each completed inspection.

Today’s tough economy has created even more need for independent field reps. Here’s why. Government regulations now require that lenders perform regular property checks on all foreclosed properties – usually one inspection a month – to verify the condition and occupancy of the property. With millions of foreclosed homes out there, the demand is high for those who can do these simple inspections.

Common Questions About Field Inspections

What is a field inspector?

A field inspector is a person who is hired on a per-project basis to complete inspections or drive-by property surveys, as needed, by national field inspection companies. Because most companies prefer to avoid the expense of having full-time employees in all parts of the country, they find it more economical to “out-source” the work to independent field inspectors.

What skills are needed?

Most inspections require that you fill out a simple company-supplied form and send in at least one digital photo. So if you can send an e-mail and use a basic digital camera, you’ll do fine. The companies that order field inspections are used to working with “newbies”, so you’ll have help if you need it to complete a project.

“My wife almost talked me out of buying this guide! She didn’t believe it was a legitimate business. Glad I ignored her, as your guide has all the bases covered, from background information to a long list of real companies who are hiring local field inspectors. Plus, it was easy to read!” Victor Vitalis – Pennsylvania

How do I get assignments?

Our guide,  Drive By Profits includes a list of over 60 national field inspection firms looking for field reps. In the guide, you’ll learn the right way to sign up with these firms to get started fast. Because these are national firms, there are no “face-to-face” interviews either. Also keep in mind – it costs nothing to sign up with any of the companies listed in the guide.

How do I get paid?

Field inspection companies will pay you by check or by direct deposit to your bank account, which is faster. Most companies pay every 30 days.

What tools do I need to do field inspections?

You’ll need a computer with internet access and a printer, a car or truck to get to the inspection locations, a measuring tape or wheel and a basic digital camera.

How far do I need to travel?

When you sign up with the national field inspection companies, you list the towns, counties and zip codes where you want to work. Remember, the larger the area you list, the more work you’ll get.

Do I need any specialized training or licenses?

You’ll need a driver’s license, of course, but most companies don’t require any specialized licenses or training.

How much can I make?

Let’s say you’re a busy mom or a retiree, who simply wants some extra income. If you can spare three hours a day, here’s how much you could make.

  • 2 property inspections (at $20 each) per hour x 3 hours = $120.
  • $120 per day x 5 days = $600 per week.

Some field inspectors make more, some less. It’s up to you. If you are looking for full-time income, you can do that field inspections, working 5-8 hours per day, and earning an above-average income.

“I purchased your guide a few months ago, and now do field inspections full-time for several of the companies listed in the guide. I’m making more money now, and working fewer hours, than at my old manager’s job. Thanks for your help and information!” Bill Weston – Florida
